Moulin d’Issan 2019

With the sea of mediocre wine coming out of Bordeaux, we’re always on the look out for good value claret that drinks well above its price point. Moulin d’Issan 2019, from the excellent Margaux Grand Cru Classé, Château d’Issan, more that hits the mark. Vintage 2019 is the second year of the famed trilogy, three back-to-back superb vintages, resulting in highly scored wines at the Château level and superb value at the entry level.

Moulin d’Issan comes from a high proportion of clay and limestone and is unique to this part of the Médoc and particularly suited to the Merlot grape, which contributes 90% of the blend in most vintages. 2019 is charming and easy to enjoy with attractive blueberry, blackberry, and subtle violet flavors. The tannins are soft and integrated, and the acidity lends plenty of tension. An absolutely delicious, classic Bordeaux that is ready to drink now and over the next 1-2 years.
