Description
Come and join us for a casual tasting on Friday, October 24th from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm to ‘Meet the Winemaker’ with Ricardo Campignoti from Le Ragnaie.
We will pour his entire line-up of wines, including his single vineyard ‘Vecchia Vigna’ Brunello di Montalcino from multiple vintages. This is a great chance to learn about Riccardo’s philosophy and the differences between his single vineyards.
Tickets are available online for $65 per ticket and we will provide all the wine to try and an Italian Cheese board.
Wines for the evening will include:
Le Ragnaie Rosso di Montalcino 2021
94 points Wine Advocate – Here’s a charming wine from Le Ragnaie. The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is released one year later than its peers after spending two years in Slavonian botte and extra time in cement. That extra year translates into seamless fruit integration. In truth, the wine is on the timid side now, but I am confident that it will flesh out and blossom aromatically with another year or two of bottle age. It excels in terms of its balanced freshness, and there are pretty flavors of sour berry and cassis on the silky finish. Fruit is assembled from various vineyard parcels.
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2018
94 points Wine Advocate – The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is delicate and fine with aromas of wild cherry, licorice, grilled herb and pressed violet. It brings on more power to the palate with medium-rich concentration, pretty freshness and silky tannins. The fine tannic management stands out here, as does its contained alcohol. In a vintage that sees very high alcohol levels across the board, Le Ragnaie should be congratulated on maintaining a more moderate 13.5% alcohol content. Winemaking sees cement and large oak casks.
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 2019
95 points Wine Advocate – The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows delicate aromas of blue flower, redcurrant, cranberry and potting soils. It has all the basic components of a classic Sangiovese. Fruit is sourced from across the estate vineyard holdings ranging from 200 to 600 meters above sea level, or the ceiling of the appellation. Baking spice is delivered to the palate with silky, almost glossy tannins. The mouthfeel is extremely fine. This is a very Burgundian Brunello
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Riserva ‘Vecchia Vigna’ 2016
99 points Wine Advocate – This wine is a star of the vintage. It is made with fruit from vines planted in 1968 in ancient soils rich in quartz at a very high 600 meters in elevation. The Le Ragnaie 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V. V. (the initials stand for “vecchie vigne,” or “old vines”) reveals a soulful personality with a very elegant set of aromas and compelling complexity. There is heritage rose, lilac and something earthy like tarragon or marjoram. Underripe cherry and redcurrant are found at the core; however, that ethereal herbal note continues to the palate where it meets a chalky mineral tone. Powdery tannins stick to the side of your mouth for a very long time.
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Riserva ‘Vigna Vecchia’ 2017
95 points Wine Advocate – With fruit from 50-year-old plants, the Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V. V. is one of three black-label special selections made by this estate. Instead of a Riserva program, Le Ragnaie focuses on territorial identity and single-vineyard expressions. This pretty wine shows the distinctive concentration that comes from the old vines, but that is also a result of the hot growing season. Dark fruit, rose, spice and baked clay emerge from this medium to full-bodied Brunello.
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Riserva ‘Vigna Vecchia’ 2018
96 points Wine Advocate – Made with fruit from old vines, the Le Ragnaie 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Ragnaie V. V. is fine and delicate. It delivers etched aromas of wild berry, dried raspberry, redcurrant, balsam herb, crushed stone and blue flower. These elements are very true to the grape, and the wine covers the palate with elegant tannins and fresh acidity. Of the three single-vineyard wines released by Le Ragnaie, this wine is the most elaborate and complex in terms of mouthfeel.
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Passo del Lume Spento 2017
96+ points Wine Advocate – The Le Ragnaie 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Passo del Lume Spento (with 3,020 bottles made) sees its fruit sourced from one of the highest places in the appellation, or the “pass of the extinguished lantern,” as the wine’s name translates into English. It is part of a broader trend that Montalcino vintners seem to be looking for cooler, high-altitude growing sites for Sangiovese. This wine demonstrates without a doubt that elevation is key in obtaining elegance in the warm years. This Brunello is particularly bright, punchy and energetic. It is one of the stars of this report.
Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino Riserva ‘Casanovina Montosoli’ 2017
95 points Wine Advocate – This is one of three black-label special selections made by Le Ragnaie. The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino Casanovina Montosoli has a tonic and bright character with dark fruit flavors, blackcurrant and tarry smoke. The wine feels tightly knit and compact, but it takes on more volume and momentum, especially as it hits the palate. In fact, it ends on a long and polished note with some crushed limestone or dusty mineral.
