Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling White Capsule 2023

Markus Molitor took over his family estate in the Mosel in 1984. Some of his vines are ungrafted, rooted in slate too inhospitable for phylloxera. Old roots. Picked by hand.

Molitor sorts his Rieslings by capsule color. Gold for sweet, green for off-dry, white for dry. Haus Klosterberg is the white capsule cuvée. Mosel slate Riesling, perfectly balanced.

The real magic is in the lees. After his grand cru bottlings rest on theirs, Molitor saves a portion and sprinkles it into the Haus Klosterberg. Texture borrowed from the top of the cellar, given to the bottle that lands on the everyday table.

The 2023 is racy and pure. Lime pith, green apple, wet slate, white flowers. Long, linear, mouthwatering. Sushi, ceviche, grilled fish on a hot afternoon.
