Domaine Bersan Bourgogne Cotes d’Auxerre Rouge 2022
$26.00
Domaine Bersan was another great find at last year’s ‘Les Grands Jours de Bourgogne’ situated in the tiny village of Saint-Bris, a stone’s throw from Chablis. Curiously, it’s the only village in Burgundy devoted entirely to Sauvignon Blanc. The two current generations, Jean-Louis Bersan and his son Jean-Christophe, are now responsible for all aspects of the estate – Jean-Christophe handles the viticulture and vinification while his father is involved in the less stressful role of commercial director. They own a number of vineyards in this most northern Burgundian outpost including plots in Irancy, Saint-Bris, Chablis and the Côtes d’Auxerre which is the focus of our wine special this week.
As the name may suggest the Côtes d’Auxerre is an agglomeration of vineyards surrounding the town of Auxerre to the west of Chablis and its the source of some superb wines offering tremendous value. Bersan’s Côte d’Auxerre rouge is the essence of cool climate Pinot Noir, vibrantly aromatic, deliciously red-fruited with fine-grained tannins and crunchy acidity. If you’re looking to enjoy the elegance and complexity of Burgundy without the headache of a second mortgage, the Côtes d’Auxerre is a great place to start.
