Château Camensac 2005, in magnum. A Haut-Médoc from one of Bordeaux’s great vintages, now comfortably mature. Dark plum, blackcurrant, and cedar on the nose, with cigar box, dried herbs, and the gravelly earth that marks the appellation. The palate is smooth and composed: tannins softened and integrated over nearly two decades, a core of dark fruit that stays fresh, and a long savoury finish that holds.

In magnum, the wine ages more slowly, so this bottle is more complete and more harmonious than the standard format, with years still ahead of it. The one to open for a slow dinner and something off the grill.
