Mencía is the primary grape of the Bierzo region and its undisputed star, covering nearly two-thirds of the vineyards situated in the north west of Spain. It’s able to produce a fascinating range of wines across a contrasting variety of styles and if you like Pinot Noir, you’ll probably love Mencia. At Altos de Losada, they make a smooth, exotic red that’s perfect for this time of the year. It shows lovely richness with depth, purity and the grape’s trademark freshness, with notable structure from 15 months in oak. Nicely-balanced and pure with delicious blackcurrant fruit, violets and a pronounced mineral core.
