After a chance encounter with Francois Labet at the Grand Jour opening event in Chablis, we found ourselves with an enviable allocation from his revered estate, Chateau de la Tour. We highly recommend any Burgundy lover to purchase, drink, and collect these wines.
Château de la Tour is the only château built within the walls of the legendary Clos de Vougeot vineyard in Burgundy, and today it remains its largest landholder. Established in 1890, the estate is managed by François Labet and his family, who farm their vines organically and, more recently, biodynamically. With around six hectares in the very heart of Clos de Vougeot, the domaine is uniquely positioned to showcase the terroir of this historic Grand Cru. Many of its Pinot Noir vines are over a century old, giving extraordinary depth and character to the wines.
The château’s flagship wines are its Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru cuvées, including the famed Vieilles Vignes, which comes from the estate’s oldest parcels. Winemaking emphasizes natural fermentations and long élevage in French oak, striking a balance between structure, finesse, and purity of fruit. With their perfume, complexity, and aging potential, these wines are considered among the finest and most authentic expressions of Clos de Vougeot. Château de la Tour thus represents both a historic symbol of Burgundy and a modern benchmark for quality in the appellation.
