Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Southern Right is a small Pinotage and Sauvignon Blanc specialist located on a strikingly beautiful property in the cool, maritime, Hemel-en-Aarde Valley appellation, just behind the old fishing village of Hermanus. The wines are named after the rare Southern Right whales, which frequent the cool South Atlantic Walker Bay. Founded by Anthony Hamilton Russell in 1994, Southern Right’s aim was to produce a serious, age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc as a fine wine, not simply as a varietal expression, combining a distinct South African flavor with classic styling and refinement.

The Sauvignon Blanc hails from the cooler area of Walker Bay which carries its ripe, fresh, stone fruit and citrus aromas with the subtlety you’d expect from the old world. It shows both exotic and citrus fruits and fresh herbs with prominent ripe acidity and an elegant crisp texture. This is a lovely, understated Sauvignon that’s more about texture at lower alcohol, minerality and salinity, than just dramatic varietal fruit.
