Markus Molitor Haus Klosterberg Riesling White Capsule 2023
Molitor sorts his Rieslings by capsule color. Gold for sweet, green for off-dry, white for dry. Haus Klosterberg is the white capsule cuvée. Mosel slate Riesling, perfectly balanced.
The 2023 is racy and pure. Lime pith, green apple, wet slate, white flowers. Long, linear, mouthwatering. Sushi, ceviche, grilled fish on a hot afternoon.

Magnum of the Month
A Mâconnais Chardonnay with a gentle richness that speaks to the warmer southern end of Burgundy’s white wine spectrum. Ripe white peach, honeysuckle, and toasted hazelnut layered over a cool, limestone minerality that keeps everything fresh and lively. The palate is medium-full with a lovely creamy texture, balanced by vivid acidity and a long, gently honeyed finish. Unoaked Chardonnay from one of the appellation’s most reliable estates, and at only $58 a magnum, it’s a consistent reminder that the Mâconnais is one of Burgundy’s great bargains.

Markus Molitor
Molitor took over his family’s Mosel estate at twenty, in 1984. Forty years later, he farms some of the river’s greatest vineyards on blue Devonian slate, with old vines and parcels his family has worked for generations.
The flight: Haus Klosterberg Riesling 2023 (white cap, dry, green apple and wet slate), Wehlener Sonnenuhr Spätlese 2022 (gold cap, from the 1842 Sundial vineyard), Zeltinger Deutschherrenberg Auslese 2005 (gold cap, twenty years in bottle), and Haus Klosterberg Pinot Noir 2022 (Mosel Pinot, the surprise of the flight).
