Amiral de Beychevelle is the second wine of Château Beychevelle, but there’s nothing second rate about it. Same meticulous sorting, same traditional barrel aging, made from younger vines on the same exceptional Saint Julien terroir.
The 2019 is hitting its stride. Dense purple in the glass, ripe blackcurrants and blueberries, tobacco leaf, cedar, and damp earth. Classic Left Bank structure with a plush, round finish.

Patrick Piuze is one of the most talked-about figures in Chablis today — a Québécois-born winemaker who arrived in Burgundy in the late ‘90s and refined his winemaking skills working alongside top producers before launching his own négociant label in 2008. His wines are known for their precision, minerality, and clarity. We think his wines absolutely sing and to get a better understanding of his winemaking philosophy, we’ve picked six wines from the very healthy, warm and generous 2022 vintage for you to enjoy this month.

Magnum of the Month
At $65 for a magnum, this is exceptional value from one of Rioja’s most exciting producers. Viña Alberdi comes from the iconic La Rioja Alta estate, renowned for crafting some of the most elegant and traditionally styled wines the region has to offer. The reserva spends two years aging in American oak barrels, followed by a further two years in bottle, resulting in a beautifully mature Tempranillo with seamlessly integrated oak, gentle tertiary complexity, and a smooth, silky mouthfeel.

Saint Julien
Saint Julien is the smallest of Bordeaux’s major appellations and arguably the most consistent. Estate after estate producing polished, structured reds that split the difference between the power of Pauillac and the elegance of Margaux.
What makes these wines click in Bermuda is the balance. Structure and polish with a roundness that makes them naturals with red meat, lamb, or a rich fish stew on a cooler evening.
This Saturday we’re pouring several Saint Julien producers side by side – a rare chance to taste the appellation across different estates.
